I've been reading a popular text on engineering by Henry Petroski, To Engineer is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design (1982/1992). Henry Petroski is a professor of civil engineering and history at Duke University. Cyder uses Petroski's book To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design in his course. Happen every minute around the world. This one has failed in the scripts of economics – see the crash and the recession. To Engineer is Human - Henry Petroski. In fact, direct copying of biological organisms can lead to poor, or even disastrous, engineering designs. A short simple article utilizing Kant's Categorical Imperative and Mill's Utilitarianism to critique the future of human genetic engineering. One should remember the lesson drawn by Henri Petroski (author of the Pencil an To Engineer is Human) that success leads to a lowering of standards and failure leads to an raising of standards. Perhaps one of my favorite non-fiction books, Henry Petroski looks at a very different aspect of engineering that has not really been touched on before; the role of failure in design. As Henry Petroski writes in To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design, we learn more from our failures than our successes. A professor both of civil engineering and history at Duke University, he is also a prolific author. And this is, therefore, a matter of social/transactional design! I remember reading “To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design” a long while ago and the take home lesson for me was we have to learn from our failures. A good book on this (parallel) kind of process: To Engineer is Human, the role of Failure in Successful Design; Petroski, Henry. There is an interesting book titled To Engineer Is Human, subtitled The Role of Failure in Successful Design, by Henry Petroski. Consider all the failed attempts humans made to fly by building contraptions with flapping wings. His first book, To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design, appeared in 1985. IT is assumed that it is true that ever parent wants a happy baby who will succeed in the current technological culture - and lead to a new generation of successful human offspring.
